Hi! I’m Ma. Jessa Mae Daig, a fourth year BSIT student at NISU Lemery Campus.
I was assigned at the Kalahi-CIDSS department located at Sara Municipality. I’ve always wanted to work in the office but one month went by my supervisor said that there is a lot of field work for the ERPAT association program and kalahi-CIDSS project activity on this month of April. I’m a shy type person that’s why I saw it as a challenge for me. The moment I heard this news I felt nervous cause I will not only facing the computer but I will be expose to the different people on the other hand I think that this a great opportunity for me because they were giving me a reason to get out on my comfort zone and expand my skills set by exploring the new world. Days and weeks have past and I learn a lot of things every day. Today is my second month as an OJT student and I am excited today on what thing would I’ll be doing. I’m glad that I made this decisions because it exposed me to so many new things and give me the opportunity to immerse myself in a wide variety of experiences.

This is our field works for almost two weeks, I was assigned on attendance sheets cause it is a important part of our event. I also entertained the guest to answer the questions that they asking me which are related to the event that we are giving to them. Before the program will start I'd help my team to set-up the things that we need and after I get the attendance of all attending guest I will helping my team to gather the food and giving it to all the attending guest.
After we end the field works we go to the office and I will encode the information that we gather during our field.
After the successful event to the different Barangay our supervisor treat us, and this is the most memorable moments to remember.
My whole OJT journey
From the start of my OJT, I was welcomed with open arms by my team. I was grateful to have a supportive supervisor and staff who were very invested in my growth and believe in me. Our team had a very distinct and supportive culture that I highly admired. Our team supported one another in any way we could and given the diverse types of works we were doing, there was always something new to learn from one another. There was so much knowledge exchange, which drove me to innovation and ideation. I enjoyed being in such a nurturing and diverse working environment that welcomed a variety of opinions, values and beliefs.
My daily Grind
As month went by, my responsibility grew significantly, and I got to used to talk with a different people that I met during our field works. During the field works it made me out of my comfort zone which leads me to enhance my communication skills. It pushed me to become more agile and efficient at work. Despite the high-pressure environment, I always had the unwavering support of my team and was constantly recognised for my efforts.
One of the biggest moments during my journey is to deal with the different people who have a different personality. During our field works I encountered different scenarios, some of them are goods and few of them are bad. I remembered what Mayor Aying said to us, he said that we are not "just" an encoder because we are "beyond on it" we are a bachelor student that's why it is important that we know what we encode, we should try new things to enhance our ability, skills and talent. We should learn everysecond of everything because not all the time we are just facing the computer all day. If we have a bigger dream then we should learn everything from now.
My almost two month of OJT experiences was really a great memory to remember. Attitude is one of the most important things, you have to learn on how to deal with the different people, it is also required knowledge and skills in analyzing the situation or the task that has given to you. You also need to accept your mistakes, because mistakes can give you a lesson that can make you a better person. As time past by I know I gained more self-confidence and self-esteem because I teach myself to improve more, and to move forward instead of pushing myself backwards.
I gain knowledge. I learn new skills. I met different people. I can say that my personal experience here in kalahi-CIDSS provides everything for me, not just for the real world of securing an employment but for me to look forward to after my graduation cause I know that someday I may be one of those applicants who are trying to seek a good job.
I believe that experience is the best teacher and nothing compares to the knowledge that it can given to us. It may be hard at first, but once we learn to appreciate and love what we’re doing, it became easier and easier every day. In the beginning, working with people you have just first met is something different and something that is hard inside. Hard inside that you can't say anything or do anything that you are usually saying because the near fact that you might offend them or they may think you’re rude. On my experience I have became an observant and a listener to the people I worked with.
During my OJT journey, I learn that as a trainee you will never avoid those who are strict and kill joys people. Sometimes you may handle them but sometimes you'll just want to avoid them. I learned to be punctual, to be respectful especially to those on the higher position, to socialize and build a harmonious relationship with other employees, to persevere and be patient, to be cautious in all the works that I do, to be humble and always eager to learn, and many more. This OJT journey is so memorable for me, and I will not forget it. It will always stay in my heart.
